When my friends and I reached the so-called “baby boomer” age, we, like many, were a little baffled about how we were supposed to act, dress and think. As time went on, I watched other “boomers” until I realized we come in all different categories just like anyone else. I can’t speak or write for all boomers because if 10 boomers stand side by side, 10 health issues, 10 social issues, 10 political issues and possibly 10 different religious backgrounds will pop up. It took a while for me to realize all 50 or 60 or 65 year olds are nothing alike. Everybody is a product or victim of life experiences. The one thing we all should have in common though, is the willingness to exercise our right to do and say whatever we want. We’ve earned it. Hence: The birth of High Heels & Hot Flashes.
Coming from the era in which people protested if there were social and political issues they didn’t like, some of us naturally speak our minds. Then one day and maybe it was during the 2016 Presidential campaign, I realized that America’s social, racial, political and religious issues are too large and complicated to handle. I need a break. Another “boomer” trait could be that some of us run like jets taking off if the subject at hand is stressful. With that said, High Heels & Hot Flashes has abandoned the controversy (for now) to take advantage of the good and wonderful days and all the fun or funny things that happen each and everyday in life.
So, one night recently while looking up at the ceiling, wide awake and thinking……it came to me that the best thing about this so-called “boomer” age is that everyday is a joy. Not having to go to a J-O-B, I have the time and space to handle, fix, try and close all kinds of projects. It’s these daily endeavors that I want to share with love, laughs and life!
By the way, we encourage and welcome other people’s upbeat stories…if they want to share them.
