Ladies and Gentlemen: You date, you fall in love, he gets on his knees to propose, you act surprised and immediately say “Yes!” Let the journey begin. In love you may be, bells and music you might hear, but do you know what’s in the bank? Do you know how he or she will spend it? Do you know what she or he thinks about savings and investments? If you don’t and you walk down that aisle….GOOD LUCK! What’s in the story book is not necessarily what will knock on your front door.
Money, Money Money. Money can be the root of all evil or it can be the road to comfort, convenience and bliss. It all depends on how it’s handled. According to a study at Kansas State University, money is the determining factor as to whether or not a marriage will last. There is no solution, according to researchers, unless couples talk it out before, during and after the wedding.
Nancy Dunham of Money Talk News online says not talking about money can put a couple on the fast track to divorce court.
She lists seven mandatory money topics that include :
- Money Style
- Tax & Benefit Implication
- Debts, Assets & Credit History
- Calculating the financial benefits of being a couple or going it alone
The bottom line is, while you follow your heart, follow the money or you could end up following the judge.©
